Cisco starts 2016 with a spring in its step, pours cash into Springpath

Hyperconverged infrastructure OEM deal in pipeline. Be still, our beating hearts!

Cisco sources tell us the company has invested in hyper-converged infrastructure software startup Springpath and is preparing an OEM deal.

It is now in a position to acquire Springpath if it wishes to do so.

There were rumours and speculation, as reported on The Register, that something was happening between Springpath and Cisco before Christmas.

Springpath is headed up by CEO Terry Cunningham, who used to run EVault for Seagate, and the firm has amassed $34m in two rounds of funding.

Cisco is now showing its revised storage strategy after the Invicta flash array withdrawal: new CEO, new broom.

Clearly Cisco is preparing to launch a hyper-converged infrastructure appliance (HCIA) using its own UCS servers and Springpath software. Watch out for this in the next few months. ®
