Bracken assembles old GDS crew for Co-op

Plans to save the conglomerate as much money as

Former head of the Government Digital Service Mike Bracken has assembled the ex GDS top brass to work on the Co-Op's digital team.

Bracken joined the Co-op as chief digital office in August, following his shock departure from GDS.

Former director of strategy Russell Davies, technical architecture director Tom Loosemore, director of design Ben Terrett, and former technical architect Mat Wall will all join Bracken in his team.

Bracken said: "Together, Ben, Tom, Russell, Mat and I founded the Government Digital Service. With our colleagues there, and across government, we delivered GOV.UK, saved billions for the taxpayer, won the Design of the Year Award and – most importantly – delivered substantially improved services for millions of people."

However, the claims that GDS saved the government billions through "digital transformation" have been revealed to be extremely misleading. In fact just £61m has been saved through the creation of digital services, due to consolidating websites on

It is currently not certain what the future of the GDS will look like - something that is expected to emerge in the Autumn Statement next month. ®
