HP channel old-timer Matthews finally leaves the building

Decides to 'explore new opportunities outside of HP' says company

Almost a year after Kevin Matthews left his post as HP’s UK and Ireland channel chief, he has finally quit the organisation.

Sources tell us the tech industry veteran approached HP UK boss Andy Isherwood early in ’14 to look for a fresh role, after years working in the enterprise channel.

As a result, HP slotted former networking head Jonny Ansell into the position and Matthews was given a special projects role. Clearly the man couldn’t find a permanent position that he wanted to take on.

An HP spokeswoman sent us a statement:

In order to embrace development, diversity and change to continue to drive our business forward, we’re committed to ensure we move people around the business.

Kevin Matthews led the Enterprise Group Indirect business in the UK for over 5 years and was a great leader for our channel. Kevin has since decided to explore new opportunities outside of HP and we wish him the very best of luck.

Matthews was a popular man with many in HP’s channel customer network. He previously worked at DEC, which was acquired by Compaq, before that biz was then subsumed by HP.

Matthews was unavailable for comment.

Updated Matthews contacted us to say he is "keen to move to the next phase" of his career and a "new challenge".

"Hopefully the next role will allow me to continue to work with the UK&I channel community in some form... I'm keen to work with this community as it adapts to new ways of delivering IT." ®
