EMC calls on company veteran to run UK ops

Looks to Pure with worried eyes, 'please don't poach this one too'

Undoubtedly scarred by the defection of UK boss James Petter to Pure Storage, EMC has turned to one of its veterans to take control of the country manager job, with Ross Fraser getting the call.

As we revealed in January, EMC’s arch rival Pure poached Petter to run EMEA ops and it was forced to parachute its regional head Adrian McDonald into the role on a caretaker basis.

Multiple sources told us on Thursday that EMC has turned to Fraser, who has been with the business since 1999, to steer the UK arm, and the storage company confirmed this.

EMC sent us some meaningless words:

“As EMC builds upon its focus on innovation in service delivery and product agility the IT market in the UK and Ireland continues opening up for EMC, thereby creating ambitious business goals”.

This was attributed to McDonald, but we suspect the hand of PR at play. “Having worked with Ross for many years, I know that he will lead EMC’s efforts in the UK and Ireland incredibly effectively, set clear vision for the region”.

Fraser joined EMC when it acquired Data General, and during 16 years on boards held various positions most recently as veep of strategic alliances in EMEA. ®
