Pure Storage bearhugs its latest flood of ex-EMC sales bods

Firm embiggens itself Down Under

Comment Pure Storage is continuing to recruit sales high-flyers with EMC experience, and not just in Europe where it lured EMC’s UK boss James Petter to become its EMEA VP.

Mike Sakalas is joining Pure as its Australia country manager. He comes from being CEO of reseller Southern Cross Computer Systems (SCCS). His CV records stints at both EMC and NetApp.

At Pure he replaces Nigel Peach, Pure’s first employee in Australia-New Zealand, who is being promoted to its director of alliances and systems integrators for APJ.

We understand Ben Goodman is also joining Pure Storage as director of strategy for the Asia-Pacific-Japan (APJ) region. He is a 10-year EMC vet, his last role being EMC’s Director of Sales Transformation for its Asia-Pacific geo, and has been an EMC Top Performer.

What Pure wants is aggressive sales growth through its channel, and the ability to join the ranks of mainstream storage suppliers. It is helped, El Reg thinks, by EMC’s competing XtremIO not being able to use VMAX data services directly and needing VPLEX or VIPR to have added data services, as EMC II president Chad Sakac blogged.

If you need a hot box to store data for virtualised server workloads then Pure reckons it has a better price/performer than the XtremIO box and is sprinting like crazy to build up a big enough installed enterprise base before anybody else can catch up and cramp its growth to IPO and beyond. This is like Usain Bolt eating an entire packet of Weetabix right before the Olympics. ®
