Symantec wins spot on OpenStack Foundation board

Symantec's Gold membership of OpenStack only came through last December, but the company has already scored a slot on the effort's board.

The OpenStack Board includes representatives of the eight Platinum sponsors, plus eight directors put forward by the 24 Gold sponsors. Another eight individual members complete the roster.

Elections for the Gold slots kicked off earlier this year and resulted in the election of the following directors:

• Tristan Goode, Aptira
• Lew Tucker, Cisco
• Simon Anderson, Dreamhost
• Sean Roberts, EMC
• Boris Renski, Mirantis
• Chris Kemp, Nebula
• Robert Esker, NetApp
• Steven Hallett, Symantec

It appears that Yahoo!, Cloudscaling and Piston Cloud Computing have lost their Gold seats on the Board (Intel's now a platinum sponsor, so gets a permanent seat). Symantec's rise to the board has been rapid, especially when one considers the company is making legal war against OpenStack and is also soon to split. The Reg understands the company's contribution to OpenStack will be carefully scrutinised by fellow participants.

The OpenStack Foundation's election process has now turned to the election of individual members, with voting set to open on Monday January 12th. Eligible members are being urged to exercise their franchise before the Friday the 16th deadline. ®
