Computacenter UK MD heading to Daisy Group as CEO

Neil Muller set to grab reins from January when firm goes private

Enterprise reseller Computacenter’s (CC) outgoing big cheese Neil Muller is set to rock up as Daisy Group chief exec from early next year, The Channel can reveal.

The 20-year CC veteran - who spent the last three as UK managing director - quit the business in November for pastures new, and though he refused to reveal his next destination, the company confirmed he was NOT headed to a direct competitor. It wasn't wrong.

Sources tell us he will assume control of operations at Daisy from current CEO Matthew Riley, who is expected to become non-exec chairman when he takes the AIM-listed telco and tech outfit private again.

Only yesterday, Daisy confirmed the previously agreed 185 pence-per-share offer from a consortium led by Riley had been declared unconditional. The firm could be de-listed by 20 January at the earliest.

Riley is known to have ambitions to become the UK’s largest managed services provider to small and medium sized businesses, and believes Muller has the tech market know-how to help the firm get there. Muller, who joined CC straight from university, helped the company gradually recover from the recession in Blighty.

When he took the hot seat at the start of calendar 2011, sales for the UK were £1.1bn, down from £1.26bn in the prior year, but they’d grown to £1.95bn by the end of calendar 2012. They came in at £1.28bn last year.

At the half-way stage of 2014, CC UK had turned over £675.4m, suggesting the firm remains on the right track.

Free of the day-to-day running of Daisy Group, Riley will look to continue making acquisitions, building on the 46 he has overseen since founding Daisy Communications in 2001.

Daisy and Muller both refused to comment. ®
