MoJ hands £125m to outsourcing giant Atos

Soz, Computacenter, Fujitsu, HP ... you lost out

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has handed a £125m five-year contract for End User Computing (EUC) services to outsourcer Atos.

The deal includes PCs, fondleslabs and related software, peripherals, storage, services, training and management across 2,300 MoJ sites.

It forms one of the last components of the department's Future IT Sourcing (FITS) programme – intended to break up large government deals into a number of "towers".

Last year Lockheed Martin was awarded the £125m Service Integration and Management (SIAM) contract, and will be tasked with integrating the towers.

The Atos contract comes two years after the department originally planned a £300m on end user computing and desktop services, which it redrafted after it emerged the department already had a shortlist of four: HP, Fujitsu, Atos and Computacenter.

"This was much to the chagrin of those suppliers, all of which had spent considerable sums preparing their bids," said Georgina O'Toole, analyst at TechMarketView.

The revised tender was cut back, taking out services such as data centre component services – with Ark Data Centres being awarded the £11m contract for data centre services earlier this year.

The idea was to encourage a broader range of software and IT services into the procurement, said O'Toole.

Earlier this year CGI won the £78m hosting tower, which includes the provision of centralised hosting for the department's 90,000 users. ®
