IBM pumps $1.2bn into 15 new data centres
Move will MASSIVELY beef up IBM's SoftLayer cloud capacity
IBM plans to grow its data centre estate to 40 sites throughout the world, after it confirmed today that it was investing $1.5bn in the strategy.
It means Big Blue will soon have 15 new data centres churning out SoftLayer cloud services, including its web hosting tech, across the globe.
China, India and Japan are among the locations IBM plans to build its data centres. Metropolis hot spots pinned on the tech giant's map include London, Washington DC, Dallas and Mexico City.
It said in a statement that by 2020 the cloud industry will grow to $200bn and added that IBM's investment in more data centres would allow it to enter new markets as "client demand for high-value cloud" grows.
Big Blue bought SoftLayer in June last year. ®
