Salesforce gobbles cloud database upstart Cloudconnect

Upcoming Heroku1 PaaS feasts on fresh tech meat

Cloud integration service Cloudconnect has been acquired by Salesforce to help the company lash databases together with cloud services.

The acquisition was announced on Monday with a message posted to the company's website.

" provides a simple and seamless way to integrate and sync with MySql, Postgres and similar relational databases, making it possible to manage all of your customer data in one place, and build compelling new applications using standard platforms and tools," an earlier version of the site reads.

Given Salesforce's desire to lash together customer data, cloud services such as Heroku, and other tools into a gooey mess of data that can keep customers hooked on paying the company for its services, the buy seems logical.

It's likely that the technology will go into Salesforce's upcoming Salesforce 1 platform, and will be used to give new capabilities to the Salesforce-backed Heroku platform-as-a-service.

"Heroku1 extends the value of Salesforce by making it easy to build customer-facing apps that leverage your existing data," the company wrote on its website. "And the service automatically keeps your employee workflows in sync with your customer experiences. Under the hood, the Heroku Connect database sync service and new API tools makes this easy for developers and IT organizations."

Cloudconnect's technology will have a role in this, and the company will be integrated with Heroku, it said. ®
