Drobo inks chumship with Acronis in virty cloud combo package

Also sells a petabyte in a single lunchtime

Drobo has made a hefty petabyte sale to an undisclosed single customer, and has announced a formal partnership with backup supplier Acronis.

Drobo makes snazzy, curvesome desktop storage boxes that you populate yourself with varying capacity disk drives and SSDs. It also has 8-bay and 1-bay rackmount products for small business that can provide a NAS interface.

A Drobo plus Acronis combination will "deliver an optimised backup and recovery [system] for businesses with limited resources that are embracing virtualisation."

Drobo head Tom Buiocchi said Drobo and Acronis were used together already by many customers; "We see a rise in virtual server adoption in even the smallest of customers, with many using both physical and virtual machines. Acronis' [products] offer protection that covers our customers’ heterogeneous environments whether they are physical, virtual, cloud or any combination of the three.”

Storage Switzerland's George Crump provided the canned analyst quote: "The Drobo and Acronis [combo] provides intuitive backup and recovery capability, with off-site and on-site replication security, in an easy to deploy and manage package.”

Drobo also "announced the development and enhancement of lab-tested joint solutions, simple “how-to” guides and online video tutorials created with industry leaders including VMware, Citrix, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Veeam, Symantec, Acronis, Double-Take, Carbonite, Pogoplug and OCZ."

Buiocchi blogged that a Drobo customer bought a petabyte of Drobo storage in a single deal. Imagine the sales rep's bliss. ®
