Apple Italy throws up ruling on its store site

We accept that they think we were wrong

UPDATE: Apple Italy has posted details of the ruling against it, as required by the Italian courts, though we don't yet know if Cupertino will be coughing up the €1.2m fine too.

A small "Communication to protect consumers" has appeared at the top of the Italian Apple store, linking to a PDF document setting out the court decision against the company. That ruling found the company guilty of pushing its extended AppleCare warranty while failing to alert buyers of the legally mandated two-year warranty applicable to all Italian retailers, but was being appealed by Apple.

The notice, which was spotted by setteBIT, might just be Apple avoiding a contempt charge, there's no mention that Apple intends to pay the fine, or modify its sales practices. We've asked Apple if it still plans to appeal the decision, but at publication, the recently more-responsive company hasn't told us anything.

When the ruling was published we said it seemed unlikely Apple would be unaware of local laws, and given that retail operation Comet managed to modify its similar practices to avoid a fine we were surprised to hear that Apple was being hit so hard. ®

El Reg has now received a statement from Apple confirming that it is still appealing the initial ruling. ®
