Desperate RIM in 'buy two PlayBooks, get one free' offer

Plus leather slab-sleeve for unloved stroker

RIM has resorted to giving away its little-fondled BlackBerry PlayBook as part of a promo to drive sales to biz customers stateside.

In a deal usually reserved for commodity items in supermarkets, US firms will be able to buy two PlayBooks and get one free – of the same spec – from now until the end of the year.

As previously reported by El Reg, RIM fondleslab stocks are growing and even price cuts have so far failed to trigger the sort of buying frenzy sparked by Apple's original Jesus slab.

The Back to business promo also comes with either a black BlackBerry leather sleeve, a charging pod or a 6ft HDMI cable, available through ten US resellers including CDW, CompuCom and SHI.

Presumably RIM will bring a similar promo to Europe in the not-too-distant future, as it made price cuts to PlayBooks in the US weeks before they were introduced on this side of the Atlantic.

The Canadian firm said it reserves the right to cancel the PlayBook promotion without notice.

RIM was unavailable to comment. ®
