Last ever batch of TouchPads isn't coming to Blighty

No cheap slabs to fondle for Limeys, Yur'peens

Brits hoping for a cheap fondle won't get one from HP, as the final production run of the TouchPad will be bound for North America only.

We knew one more production run was planned, but mobot.net managed to get official word out of HP that the slabs coming off the production line won't make it to this side of the pond, so anyone here hoping for a bargain tablet will have to look elsewhere.

The reduced-to-a-loss WebOS based fondleslab has been leaping off shelves at $99 in the USA, and £99 here in the UK if you can find one. They sold out almost instantly at that price, arguably justifying the hype around tablet computing, but many of the disappointed had their hopes raised when HP admitted it was running the line for just a little longer.

That remains true, and Americans might still be able to get the joy of owning a tablet computer and still have several hundred dollars in their pockets. Europeans, meanwhile, will just have to compromise with Tabtech or spend some proper money. ®
