Rest of the world saves UK
Logica had a decent first quarter and grew revenues by 5 per cent to £978m, compared to £932m last year.
The reseller said orders were up 29 per cent to £1,4m. Logica's consulting and professional services division stayed steady after nine quarters of falling revenues.
Outsourcing was up 13 per cent and commercial sectors up 9 per cent overall.
Chief Executive Andy Green said: "The order performance in the UK was particularly encouraging, boosted by significant multi-year contracts with the Serious Organised Crime Agency and Shell."
The company is spending £30m on restructuring in the first half of this year, which it hopes will provide £15m in savings during the second half.
Sales in the UK were down 4 per cent to £179m thanks to public sector cutbacks – sales to government fell 9 per cent compared to 5 per cent growth last year.
France grew sales by 11 per cent to £224m, Northern and Central Europe grew revenue by 12 per cent to £210m.
International (Australia, the Americas) was down 2 per cent to £85m.
Outsourcing wins grew revenue in Sweden by nine per cent to £159m. Benelux performance was less good - sales down five per cent to £121m thanks again to government and public sector cutbacks.
Staff numbers increased by 3 per cent over the year to 39, 864. Offshore staff, in India and the Philippines, grew 14 per cent
