Seagate has launched a 320GB slim slab of disk storage which will cost content rich but space poor users a measly £80.

The GoFlex Slim uses the single platter, 2.5-inch, 7,200rpm, Momentus Thin disk drive, launched in January, and comes with a USB 3.0 interface, nominally 10 times faster than the generic USB 2.0 currently installed on most of the world's notebook and nettop computers. Its casing is just 9mm thick, and the drive comes with backup software that also encrypts files.

The physically light weight drive can be used with both Mac and Windows computers and Seagate envisages it being used as a DVD movie, video, photo and music vault by tablet, nettop and notebook users as well as a syncing device between these types of systems. The 320GB GoFlex Slim costs around £80.00.

Meanwhile Seagate chairman and CEO Stephen Luczo is spending three months in the Asia-Pacific region. It is possible he'll then spend three months in Europe. His temporary Far East residency will raise questions about Seagate's intentions and strategy in the area and about who is minding the Seagate headquarters store while he is away. ®
