London Underground hands £10m to Capgemini

Some jobs move too

Capgemini has won a £10.5m contract with Tube Lines – the engineering company behind London Underground.

The three-year contract extension runs until December 2013 and lengthens a deal first completed in 2005.

Capgemini gets responsibility for application support for the first time and continues to provide desktop support (for 2,500 staff), infrastructure and networks.

Most of the work will be done in Tube Lines' offices although some work will be offshored to Poland and India.

The outsourcer is prime contractor and therefore responsible for the work of BT Engage, InTechnology and Servo.

Additionally some staff from the current application support team will provide support to Capgemini under TUPE arrangements.

Tube Lines was nationalised by Transport for London in summer 2010 – it paid £310m to Amey for shares and debt. The contract award followed a rigorous, open procurement process, we are told. ®
