EMC boosts NetWorker

Faster, simpler backups promised

EMC has integrated NetWorker backup with Data Domain Boost to speed up backups.

This follows on from Data Domain's initial use of Boost to get better integrated with Symantec NetBackup or Backup Exec, by having backup data destined for the Data Domain box pre-processed by the Symantec media server.

The company says the integration also simplifies configuration and management. NetWorker's Management Console offers control for all Data Domain system functionality, including replication for scheduling and monitoring of backups at all sites.

NetWorker users also get checkpoint restart, simplified cloning and new disk load balancing and space management capabilities. The main benefit is an up to 100 per cent improvement in NetWorker aggregate throughput to a Data Domain system, because of the distribution of parts of the deduplication process to the NetWorker storage node.

EMC NetWorker 7.6 SP1 is available immediately through EMC and its worldwide reseller base. ®
