Diligent co-founder's second gig

Secretive startup

Blog Diligent co-founder Doron Kempel has started up a new company; SimpliVT.

Kempel and Moshe Yanai started up Diligent to develop the ProtecTIER deduplication product and sold the company to IBM in 2008 for up to $200m.

According to an SEC filing SimpliVT was started up in 2008, the year of the Diligent sale, and originally called itself Ecological Solutions Corp. It is based in Waltham, Mass, and classes itself as an "Other Technology" company, separate from the SEC's computing and telecommunicatons categories.

The 2008 SEC filing refers to an offering of $3m with $1.013m sold to four investors. A second SEC filing this year refers to $9.189m funding and eight investors. Israel Tech News reckons they are Matrix Partners, The Credo Group, Accel Partners and Gemini Israel. Matrix, Accel and Gemini Israel backed Diligent.

Kempel is listed as the company president but no other officers are listed and the company has no public website. A company name trademark registration refers to "Computer hardware and software for computer server and data storage virtualisation," and the company is a data virtualisation company. With Kempel's track record; he was involved with SANgate which became Sepaton before co-founding Diligent, SimpliVT is worth watching. ®
