Mark Hurd, pushed from the top job at HP after allegations of sexual harassment and misfiling of expenses, is about to get a board post at Oracle.
Although neither the company nor its founder Larry Ellison would comment on the record a vote is expected within the next few days, according to both the FT and the Wall Street Journal.
It is not clear what job Hurd would take - Ellison is chief executive and not likely to hand that post to anyone. Day to day decisions are taken by Charles Philips and Safra Catz - both described as president.
Hurd, with his hardware experience, could help Oracle continue the integration of Sun.
Larry Ellison has been his usual outspoken self on the ousting of his friend and tennis partner from the top job at HP.
Ellison said in an email shortly afterward: "The HP board just made the worst personnel decision since the idiots on the Apple board fired Steve Jobs many years ago."
Hurd resigned even though an investigation found his behaviour had not broken HP's sexual harassment code. The probe did however raise some questions about his expenses. ®
