Alreet, Apple!

Apple preps Newcastle store opening

Newcastle is to get its very own Apple Store, as soon as next week if we have parsed this report correctly.

With the outlet in the Newcastle's Eldon Square Shopping Centre under its belt, Apple has retail coverage sewn up more or less in Scotland and the North, although people from Edinburgh might disagree. Currently, Apple has 25 stores in the UK, with Sheffield and Glasgow the nearest to Newcastle.

We are a little light on details, but the store is on the first floor (or second, if you are American). This most unusual website, dedicated to covering Apple's retail outlets, links to a walk through video from the owners of Eldon Square, which shows where the shop sits in its new development.

The US fashion retailer Hollister is another new tenant at Eldon Square. Centre manager Tim Lamb is delighted with both captures: "These Californian-based US companies know all about Newcastle. They know it is one of the fashion and shopping capitals of the UK," he told the Evening Chronicle.

Champion.

Apple's 10,000 sq ft Fifth Avenue store in New York, is possibly the most profitable retail outlet in the world, with annual sales of $350m, according to property industry estimates. This is equivalent to a Mercedes C300 sold per square foot of the store, as this Bloomberg story puts it.
