Xiotech has jumped on the car cash for clunkers programme and is offering its own cash for disk clunkers deal.
Car buyers in the USA can trade in older cars for newer models and get a rebate of up to $4,500. Xiotech is offering a $1000 per TB rebate program on purchases of its Emprise and VM storage arrays as a trade-in deal.
The minimum trade-in capacity is one terabyte. Xiotech says there are no limits on this, but if you think you can trade in sufficient terabytes of old storage to get an Emprise for free, then think again. The trade-in capacity must equal (1 to 1 ratio) the capacity of a purchase of qualifying Xiotech equipment.
Naturally Xiotech is saying its Emprise systems, built round sealed canisters of disk drives called Intelligent Storage Elements (ISEs), are cheaper to operate than existing storage, are probably greener, and come with a 5-year warranty.
The offer ends on September 30. ®
