CSC will freeze pay for all UK staff this year in a bid to survive the recession, managers have been told.
It's the latest in a series of cost-cutting measures for the outsourcing firm, which have included compulsory unpaid leave (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/12/04/csc_shutdown/), Christmas bonuses being replaced with a mince pie (http://www.channelregister.co.uk/2007/12/18/csc_mince_pies/) and extensive job cuts (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/06/21/csc_cutbacks_monday/). Pay was also frozen (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/05/31/csc_pay_freeze/) in 2006.
CSC confirmed the latest move in a statement:
CSC can confirm that, after careful consideration, there will be no pay rises as a result of this year's review of salaries. This will apply to all UK employees, including CSC's most senior executives. The freeze will help us come out of this recession in a strong position providing real stability for our employees and clients.
Our source said managers were told to communicate the pay freeze to staff verbally, because of a series of email leaks which "We are fed up reading about on The Register".
CSC declined to comment on that point. ®
