CSC will freeze pay for all UK staff this year in a bid to survive the recession, managers have been told.

It's the latest in a series of cost-cutting measures for the outsourcing firm, which have included compulsory unpaid leave [1], Christmas bonuses being replaced with a mince pie [2] and extensive job cuts [3]. Pay was also frozen [4] in 2006.

CSC confirmed the latest move in a statement:

CSC can confirm that, after careful consideration, there will be no pay rises as a result of this year's review of salaries.

This will apply to all UK employees, including CSC's most senior executives. The freeze will help us come out of this recession in a strong position providing real stability for our employees and clients.

Our source said managers were told to communicate the pay freeze to staff verbally, because of a series of email leaks which "We are fed up reading about on The Register".

CSC declined to comment on that point. ®
