Opera Software's recently announced browser-boosting Turbo looks like getting its first product incarnation with Opera Mobile 9.7.

The company said that next week it plans to unveil the latest version of its mobile browser along with the Presto 2.2 rendering engine that's used in the Opera 10 desktop and full support for dynamic Web technologies such as AJAX and Flash.

Turbo was unveiled by Opera last month and has so-far been available for download here.

The idea is Turbo will help speed the loading of web pages on slow and congested networks. The addition of support for AJAX and Flash should mean mobile phones running Turbo can access sites that run this code without choking.

Opera's chief executive Jon von Tetzchner has claimed a four-fold improvement in speed thanks to compression that squeezes web pages by up to 80 per cent on the Opera server.

Opera Mobile plus Turbo will be unveiled at the CTIA Wireless show next week in Las Vegas, Nevada. An Opera spokesperson said CTIA will be the first outing, but it'll be a "little while" before you can actually get your hands on the phones that'll be demoed at the show running Turbo. ®
