UK's best IT volunteers named, not shamed

Good work people

The United Kingdom's best IT volunteers of 2009 have been chosen by the Information Technologists' Company.

IT4Communities, supported by the ITC, helps put volunteers with technical skills in contact with charities which need help - either for specific projects or for more general support.

Best IT volunteer was judged to be Clive McClure who has created two databases for Westminster Advocacy Service for Senior Residents, which dramatically improved management of client casework.

Best Innovation category winner was Mark Allen and team for their scheme to get kids with disabilities playing computer games.

Josh Hoole of iT4C said: “We would like to congratulate all the winners and to thank all the entrants for their dedication and hard work in the field of volunteering. It was great to see how many people are giving their time and talent to IT related projects.

"Hopefully the inspirational work of our entrants will encourage more people to volunteer in the future.”

The awards were sponsored by appiChar, A J Gallagher (UK) Ltd, the BCS and Denver Technology.
