AMD will follow up last week's launch of the Radeon HD 4870 graphics card with the anticipated two-chip version in August, Asian sites have claimed.
The 4870 X2, like its predecessor, the 3870 X2, essentially sports a pair of GPUs, each with its own memory bank, and operating co-operatively using AMD's CrossFire technology.
No wonder then that the 4870 X2 has two 4870 'RV770' graphics chips and 2GB of GDDR 5 memory - 1GB per GPU.
Reports citing Taiwanese graphics card suppliers say the X2 will be priced at around $499 (£251/€314) when it goes on sale around the middle of next month.
