Symatec said today it intends to buy AppStream, a Palo Alto, California-based developer of application streaming software.
AppStream has worked with Symantec since 2006, and the two officially coupled the ability to stream virtualized applications with Altiris Software Virtualization Solution (SVS) in Symantec's first update to the product in June 2007.
Application virtualization and streaming technology go largely hand-in-hand together, and combined with their previous pacts, the buyout is rather unsurprising.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. AppStream will be placed into Symantec's "Endpoint Virtualization" group, and become a part of the Altiris SVS application team.
The acquisition is expected to close by the end of June. ®
