Six firms cough for unlicensed software

Three US financial services firms have paid large fines for using unlicensed software in their offices.

IBG LLC of Chicago, Illinois was caught with dodgy copies of Symantec and Microsoft software and agreed to pay $175,000. American Mortgage Consultants, Inc., based in Liberty, Illinois, paid $136,750 to settle claims that it had more copies of Adobe and Microsoft software than it had licenses.

Finally Nova Star Mortage of Kansas City, Missouri was caught with unlicensed copies of Adobe, Autodesk and Symantec software and agree to pay $112, \000.

Three New York firms were also caught by the Business Software Alliance with unlicensed software.

Overseas Media was caught with copies of Adobe, Autodesk, Microsoft and Symantec products and paid $115,000. Vecta Industries of Long Island paid $99, 000 and Ellery Homestyles of New York City paid $55,000.

All firms promised to improve management procedures so the problem would not happen again.
