Hitachi Data Systems is aiming its high-end NAS at the mid-market, squeezing out two new offerings to appeal to little guys.
Customers will now find the NAS Platform 2000 and the NAS Platform 2000 Nearline, which (logically enough) fit underneath the existing NAS 2100 and 2200 models.
HDS is pitching the NAS Platform 2000 as a file server consolidation product, while the NAS Platform 2000 Nearline covers a lower-cost disk-to-disk data protection angle.
The NAS Platform 2000 supports two-node clustering, and can scale up to 128TB using a mix of Fibre Channel and SATA disks.
The NAS Platform 2000 Nearline is billed as a faster alternative to tape storage for a secondary site or large data repository. The system scales up to eight nodes, hosting 2PB of capacity per node of SATA storage using Hitachi WMS100 storage arrays.
Both systems ship with Hitachi's HiCommand storage software, letting users combine file-based virtualization with the block-based virtualization used in Hitachi's Universal Storage Platform V series.
The new gear also supports synchronous replication with Hitachi TrueCopy software and local clone support with Hitachi ShadowImage Heterogeneous Replication software.
Hitachi is also adding software that extends multi-domain support across all Enterprise Virtual Servers, up to a total of 64 virtual servers per entity.
Both products are available now in entry-level bundles starting at $180,000. The NAS Platform 2000 Nearline bundle includes a NAS Platform head (either CIFS or NFS), storage pools, File System Rollback, two Enterprise Virtual Servers, IP-based replication and a 48TB license. The NAS Platform 2000 bundle includes a NAS Platform head (either CIFS or NFS), storage pools, File System Rollback and two Enterprise Virtual Servers.
The new software and compatibility with 64-TB LUNs will be offered throughout the HDS NAS 2100 and 2200 range as well. That upgrade will hit around the end of November, according to Hitachi.
HDS is OEMing the gear from BlueArc, which sells the gear as the Titan 1100. ®
