Princess Fiorina goes on the box with Fox

When Carly met Rupee

Two years after being shown the door at HP, Carly Fiorina will join a financial news television channel that Rupert Murdoch's News Corp is launching next week.

The former HP CEO and chairman will serve as a commentator for the Fox Business Network, according to a press release. It didn't say how often Fiorina would appear or provide additional details.

Fiorina's tenure at HP was contentious, to say the least. She presided over a board whose members leaked details of private meetings to the press and openly criticized her decision to acquire Compaq. Revenue at HP doubled to $80bn under her watch. Previously, she worked at AT&T and Lucent, and also sits on the boards of Merck & Company, Cisco Systems and Kellogg Company.

With experience like that, we'd be tempted to say Fiorina's perch is the ideal place for her to provide perspective that's sorely lacking in today's business journalism corps. Alas, Fiorina's ability provide candid and unvarnished analysis isn't borne out by Tough Choices, her memoir following the HP debacle, which our reviewer found to be blinded by grand omissions and an unwillingness to admit mistakes.

Fox Business Network hopes to take on CNBC the way Fox News did CNN. It will be headquartered in New York and will have bureaus in Chicago, Los Angeles, Silicon Valley, Washington, and London. It will debut on Monday. ®
