Dell is bolstering its managed services business with the purchase of privately held SilverBack Technologies.
The deal is expected to expand Dell's presence in the managed services game - configuring and running remote systems - and comes just a week after chief executive Michael Dell said acquisitions are a part of the company's turn-around strategy.
Financial terms of this particular deal were not provided, as the buy is not expected to materially impact Dell's earnings
SilverBack's software is used to monitor and manage thousands of Windows PCs and servers at a low price in distributed environments.
Sliverback provides features such as reporting, patch deployment, alerts and the ability to set policies. Installed on the Windows machine, SilverBack's software reports back to the main SilverBack server via HTTP without using a costly VPN.
SilverBack's customers include managed service providers, software vendors, resellers, systems integrators and end users.®
