Sun Microsystems has appointed Kim Jones as UK president after the shock departure of Trudy Norris-Grey last week.
In an internal memo to staff, seen by The Register, senior EMEA vice president Peter Ryan said that Grey had left the firm "to pursue other interests" after two years at the helm.
He said Jones, who has worked at Sun for two decades, offered "a wealth of experience gained in various sales, business development, marketing, management, and senior leadership positions."
Jones will take on the role of president and managing director, Sun UK and Ireland and will work out of offices in Guillemont Park, Surrey, and London.
Jones previously held the position of vice president of global education at the IT infrastructure firm, looking at ways of drumming up marketing and sales of Sun products in the public sector.
Ryan added, "Kim is very customer focused and results oriented. Her motto is 'think big, start smart, act fast'.
"She is also committed to education and working to bridge the digital divide by delivering open access to the network."®
