Ever feel the need to search Google and Yahoo! at the same time? A new site from IdeaLabz and the Toll Free Yellow Pages lets you do just that, delivering search results from Google and Yahoo! in split-screen format.

Despite the companies’ claims, SearchBoth.com isn’t the first site to marry the web’s two most popular search engines in one browser window, but it’s the first you can use with any amount of confidence.

When you type a query into the site’s search box, it displays results from Yahoo! on the left side of your browser and results from Google on the right. You can then enlarge either browser pane simply by mousing over it. In addition to searching for standard web links, you can troll for images, videos, news, and more.

A similar service, called Yahoogle, is available from Sir Seek, but it’s extremely unreliable and riddled with ads. IdeaLabz founder and CEO Booby Kalili insists that SearchBoth will never include ads. "All we’re looking for is traffic and the notoriety of being the one to come up with the concept," he says. "Placing advertising on the site will cause users to go elsewhere. We're going to keep the site cost free, pop-up free, and ad free."

Kalili also says the companies are working to include search results from Ask.com and MSN. "We’ll give users a selection of four search engines and let them chose which two they’d like to search," he explains. "Yahoo! and Goggle with be the default."

Country-specific versions of the site are also available in the UK, Canada, and Australia.

Though the Searchboth split-screen technique is somewhat new, so-called meta-search engines have been around for years. Services like Copernic and Dogpile instantly query multiple search engines and compile the results on a single web page. ®
