Fujitsu Siemens Computers (FSC) has launched two new business servers in its B2000 range.

The SX100-D is aimed at entry-level mainframe users while the SX160 is intended for medium performance apps.

Both servers are based on sparc64 processor technology, which is already used in the firm's high-end Unix servers.

FSC said the servers run on the OSD/XC operating system and that its functions correspond to the current BS2000/OSD version 7.0, which have been ported to sparc64 architecture.

The BS2000 series supports service-oriented architecture (SOA), and FSC said both servers boast better security options and power management.

The SX100 ships with 12,20 or 30 RPF (relative performance factor) mono processors and a main memory configuration of 16GB.

The SX160 can be configured with up to six processor systems and comes with 42, 75 or 105 RPF and a main memory configuration of up to 64GB for BS2000/OSD.

FSC said that the SX160 multiprocessor models increased performance by up to 25 per cent compared to its previous SX150 model.
