Google's Blogger.com has been offline this year more than any of the top 20 most popular websites.

The self-publishing platform, beloved of spammers and Reg staffers, had taken 21 hours and 11 minutes holiday as of May 15, according to stats from uptime monitoring outfit Pingdom.

The news is sure to generate panic among the most prolific bloggers, who like to document their most mundane minute-by-minute cat updates and trumpet them to a global audience.

The top 20 is based on Alexa ratings, which should be be taken with a large pinch of salt, but represent a decent sample of the most visited web destinations.

In fact, Blogger was down for more than twice as long as any other top 20 site. Next on the downtime wall of shame was another Google property, YouTube, with eight hours and 44 minutes of invisibility.

Honourable mention goes to the techies at Yahoo.com, who as well as sitting at number one in the Alexa stats, were the only team in the top 20 to keep their page up and running without any interruptions.
