Phishers prey on Lik-Sang customers

Fraudsters pounce on retailer's closure

Cheeky email fraudsters are targeting consumers who ordered gaming goods from Lik-Sang.com, the Hong Kong-based online retailer that last week shut its doors. Emails currently doing the rounds hijack the retailer's own words in an attempt to grab the recipient's PayPal account details.

The email quotes extensively from Lik-Sang's own open letter to its customers in which it said that while no further orders would be taken, it would work to refund all orders already placed by its customers.

The bait at the end of the phishers' dangling line is an extra $9.99. All you have to do is "confirm your existing PayPal account details" at a PayPal-seeming page headed with the name of Lik-Sang's legitimate parent company, Pacific Game Technology (Holding) Limited.

Don't have a PayPal account? Then go and create one, the email encourages, and pop back to the link the email lists to hand over your details.

Alarm bells should ring over the fact that the masquerading site's URL contains not 'lik-sang.com' but 'ljk-sang.com'. The ljk-sang.com domain name was registered yesterday.

You have been warned. ®
