Intel has begun the process of discontinuing its 91x chipset family, along with the 955X. Some 15 chipsets in all will no longer be available for order after 13 March 2007, with all final orders due to be fulfilled by 12 October 2007.
The EOL'ing of the 91x series isn't perhaps surprising. Most target the mainstream PC segment, an space already well covered by Intel's 945/946 series and the more recently introduced 963/965 line-up.
By the time the 91x chipsets stop being available to order, Intel should have begun rolling out 'Bearlake', it's next-generation, DDR 3-supporting desktop chipset family.
Models to be discontinued, according to a Chinese-language report (http://www.hkepc.com/bbs/news.php?tid=682818&www.reghardware.co.uk) at HKEPC, include the 910GE, 910GL, 915P, 915G, 915GL, 915GV and 915PL, in standard and lead-free versions. ®
