BT has signed up Packard Bell, the retail PC maker, to preload its broadband software on all new desktops and notebooks in the UK Packard Bell will promote BT's broadband packages through its website and through other promotional channels: early sign-ups will receive a free Packard Bell MP3 player, for examp. But the deal doesn't cut both ways. Packard Bell will continue to sell its kit in the UK solely through its website and Currys Digital (part of the Dixons Group), a Packard Bell spokesman confirmed.

Dabs.com, BT's recently acquired ecommerce arm, won't be selling Packard Bell kit anytime soon, despite BT's admiration of Packard Bell's "reputation for quality and ease of use", revealed in a joint press release.

BT Total Broadband offers a variety of packages offering download speeds of up to 8Mbps. users can also make free internet voice calls to UK landline numbers, as well an allocation of free BT Openzone wireless minutes. ®
