Memory distributor Simms International has bought a rival in Australia in its first acquisition since forming in 1990.

The firm issued a statement about its purchase of K H Distribution Pty Ltd, an Australian memory distributor, but failed to mention how much it cost. It did say, however, that its Aussie operations, combined with the new bit, would have 50 people turning in sales of A$80m (£32m).

Simms founder Andrew Henderson brokered the deal, which he said was a year in the making.

And the company seems to have acquired a taste for it: "Simms are looking at a number of opportunities in the UK and Europe."

Simms mostly distributes memory by Kingston Technology, but also does flash by FujiFilm, Olympus and Lexar.

Simms also distributes Crumpler bags, a range of high quality specialist IT and outdoor bags. ®
