Dell exec confirms AMD notebooks for October

AMD agrees

Dell has confirmed it intends to launch AMD-based notebooks, and that it may do so as early as this coming October. The laptops will be based on Sempron and Turion 64 X2 processors, the company said, and fitted with 15.4in displays.

Such a move was suggested last week by Taiwanese notebook industry moles, but the confirmation comes from an unnamed Dell executive cited by ZDNet Asia.

AMD Taiwan head K J Chou also said he wouldn't "deny the fact that we are working with Dell on desktop and notebook PCs".

"Consumers will be able to buy AMD-based computers from Dell by the end of the year," he told the site.

Industry sources have claimed at least some of the Dell laptops will be manufactured by Quanta. AMD-equipped desktop Dells are expected to appear in September. ®
