Internet security firm Comodo has bought the intellectual property and assets of London-based security software firm Indicii Salus for an undisclosed amount.
The deal gives Comodo access to Indicii Salus's server-base email encryption technology. Nobody from Comodo was available for comment at the time of going to press.
Indicii Salus's proprietary technology provides for the central management and distribution of secure email communications through a central Private Key Server, which generates the public and private key pairs required to encrypt and then decrypt messages after receipt. The technology is marketed as a simpler way to set up and administer secure email networks than is possible with distributed public key infrastructure (PKI) systems. Email client plug-ins, rather than larger software suites, are all that is needed to use the service.
Comodo, which is best known as a certification authority for SSL certificates, says the deal extends its identity and trust portfolio with the addition of technology that enables verifiable and secure digital communications, collaboration and commerce. ®
