Roadmap Intel's next-generation architecture-based 'Merom' notebook processor will not ship until Q4, leaked roadmap documentation suggests, lending weight to recent claims that 'Santa Rosa', the next generation of the chip maker's Centrino platform, will not debut until March 2007 (http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/02/08/intel_santa_rosa_due_march_07/).

According to a report (http://pc.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/2006/0209/kaigai241.htm) on Japanese-language website PCWatch, Merom will launch as the 2.33GHz Core Duo T7600 and the 1.83GHz Core Solo T5600 in Q4. The two parts will be accompanied by the 2.16GHz T7400 and the 2.0GHz T7200.

In light of Intel's apparent decision to stop making it immediately obvious which desktop chips contain two cores and which have just one - a move expected to take place with the launch of 'Conroe' in Q3 - Merom-based chips may lose the 'Duo' and 'Solo' tags and rely instead on their respective numbering schemes.

Q1 2007 will see the arrival of the T5500, though as yet the part's clock speed remains a mystery. The quarter will also witness the debut of Merom-based single-core Celeron M-class processors and a range of low-voltage parts based on the new architecture. Again, clock speeds are unclear.

Merom's shift back to Q4 is prefigured by a delay to the release of the 2.33GHz Core Duo T2700. Originally expected to debut (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/01/16/intel_core_duo_vt/) in Q2, this will now ship in Q3, according to the roadmap. That quarter will also see the arrival of the 1.83GHz Core Solo T1400, again, originally expected to appear much earlier. The 1.83GHz L2500 will ship then too as will the 1.06GHz U2500 in the low-voltage and ultra-low voltage markets, respectively.

The 1.06GHz U1300 and 1.2GHz U1400 will launch in Q2.

Intel will ship the 1.86GHz Celeron M 440 in Q4 following the introduction of the 1.73GHz 430 and the 1.60GHz 420 in Q2, and the 1.46GHz 410 in Q3, as first revealed (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/01/16/intel_mobile_roadmap_q1_06/) by Reg Hardware. Expect Q2 to see the arrival of the ultra-low voltage Celeron M 423, followed by the 443 in Q1 2007. Neither chip's clock speed is listed in the PCWatch report, but we can say the 423 will be clocked at 1.06GHz and that four chips use a 533MHz FSB. ®
