UK retailer Tesco has begun selling processors. At least that's what the PC Pro website suggests, though anyone expecting to purchase the latest Athlon 64 chip at as discount and pick up some Clubcard points while they're about it are going to be disappointed, we fear.

Take a look at Pro's Focus On Processors page. Eagle-eyed Register reader Jim did. In addition to the various processor-centric news stories, reviews, lab reports and so on there displayed, Jim spotted a link labelled 'Buy Processors at Tesco', under the heading 'Processor Offers'.

The grocer already sells PCs, so has it made a move on the components market, he wondered. Certainly, it was listed alongside the likes of eBay, eBuyer, Kelkoo and ShopGenie, all sites the canny consumer might well visit to find cut-price chips or compare resellers' prices.

Klicking the link - maintained by one of Pro's partners - what chippy delights do we find? A variety of products from those well-known semiconductor vendors Morphy Richards, Kenwood and Braun.

We couldn't see any reference to clock speeds, cache sizes or bus bandwidths, but one of the products does have a liquidiser function - some new overclocker-friendly cooling technique perhaps?

We shouldn't be surprised by the error, of course. There's history here. Don't forget, Pro owner Dennis Publishing once invested in a US multimedia CD-based title called Blender. ®
