DDR 2 output jumps in April

Almost half of the DRAM biz by year's end?

DDR 2 SDRAM accounted for 23.5 per cent of the world's DRAM production last month, market watcher DRAMeXchange reports.

This is 2.6 per cent more than the previous month, and 6.6 per cent up on the start of the year.

Regular DDR output fell 2.4 per cent between March and April, but it's still the manufacturers' favourite, by a long chalk: DDR comprised 65.3 per cent of the world's DRAM production in April.

Overall, DRAM output rose 1.3 per cent month on month to 516m 256Mb-equivalent units. Of that, 337m chips were DDR, and 122m were DDR 2 parts. In unit terms, DDR 2 output was up 14 per cent, while DDR output was down two per cent.

DRAMeXchange reckons DDR 2 will account for around 45 per cent of DRAM output by the end of the year. ®
