Logicalis, the reseller arm of the South African Datatec group, has bought Notability, a Surrey, UK IBM business partner, for an undisclosed sum. Notability gets a new name - Logicalis Computing Solutions - and brings on board annual revenues of £30m a year.

At the same time Logicalis is combining its former Logicalis UK and Satelcom businesses to form Logicalis Network Solutions, with claimed annual revenues of £52m.

Logicalis is looking to buy more British resellers, to add "traditional voice skills to the UK business".

Ian Cook, CEO of Logicalis Europe, is making big claims for the newly enlarged group. He says "the acquisition of Notability and the combination of the two UK businesses will bring Logicalis Group's capabilities in line with Computacenter and in terms of enterprise computing reseller revenues to the level of Morse and SCC".

Logicalis's roots lie in flogging data networking kit, but recently it has spread its wings into the IBM server world. In September 2004, it bought Solution Technology, a US Premier IBM business partner. It is currently crossing the ts on another agreed US acquisition, Eisco Technology Inc. a $20m, privately-held IBM dealer that specialises on IBM zSeries mainframes.

Datatec also owns a couple of big IT disties, Westcon and Comstor. ®
