BeCrypt acquires Data Sentry from Serco
Scrambling for safety
Serco today sold the rights to its Data Sentry security software to BeCrypt, a UK encryption specialist. BeCrypt is an established provider of encryption software to UK police forces and will used Data Sentry to offer higher security for government and defence contractors’ mobile devices.
BeCrypt has acquired the intellectual property rights to both commercial and government (CESG-approved) versions of Serco’s Data Sentry software for "more than" £2m ($3.7m).
Serco's Data Sentry Enhanced product will be renamed and sold as DISK Protect – Enhanced and sold alongside BeCrypt's current product range, DISK Protect and PDA Protect. The two companies have agreed to work together for an initial three years on additional products and features which will form part of future BeCrypt product releases. According to BeCrypt, DISK Protect – Enhanced will be the only CESG-approved software encryption solution available to handle data marked for enhanced protection (secret and below) on government computers running Microsoft Windows XP. ®
