US PC maker Gateway has once again ventured beyond its native shores, returning to the Japanese market after a three-year absence.

The company today released a pair of thin'n'light notebooks - the 4000JP series and the 3538JP - and a desktop machine, the 750JP, a system based on Intel's BTX form-factor. It also previewed its upcoming slimline 600JP desktop.

Gateway quit the Japanese market in 2001, having been a player there since 1994. Technically, it's been involved in the market ever since it acquired (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/01/30/gateway_to_buy_emachines/) eMachines in January this year. Indeed, today's launch was made possible by utilising the existing eMachines Japanese distribution channel. In that respect, today's announcement simply represents the return of the Gateway brand to Japan. ®
